Our Traveling Adventures!

Each summer my kids and I get in the car and just . . . go! For 9 months during the school year we are pretty much in survival mode to make it though school, projects, homework, gymnastics, dance, karate, swimming, etc. . .

Summertime is our time to reconnect with each other without all the stresses of the school year. Now that they are all old enough so none are in diapers (phew!!), they can all hold 'it' long enough to get to the next rest stop, can read books in the car and signs we pass, there is nothing holding us back! I want to make the most of each summer with my kids. We only get so many together before they graduate high school and are off and way to live their lives. I want their memories of summer to be those of learning and adventure! I want them to remember family, laughter, and fun. I want them to smile when they remember their summer trips. I want them to have such amazing memories that they are inspired to do the same with their kids one day.

Until my oldest was 6 we did Summer Bucket Lists at home and had adventures around our city. This DIY Car Wash for their bikes was a fun project one year!

We traveled to National Parks in nearby states which was doable with 3 young children.

We went to the San Diego Zoo and the beach each summer. We made amazing memories and my kids talk about their summer adventures all year long. "Remember when. . . " is a common conversation starter around the dinner table in my house.

But, after our past summer I realized I wanted to do more with my kids. I reminisced back to summers with my dad and traveling all over the country, laid out in the back of his suburban with my pillows, blankets, and books galore. (Loved it then, but would never let my kids do the same now!)

My son is obsessed with Ghost Towns, which we visit all over our state of Nevada. One lucky day we found Ghost Towns of Route 66 at the Kelso Train Depot which we pass each time we go to visit my family in California.

My son and I excitedly purchased the book and agreed that this would be the basis of our next summer. In preparation I found this book Road Trip USA and decided that until my kids fly the nest, this would be the planner for the rest of our summers together. It has 11 different road trips that criss cross the USA. This year we will be starting with Road Trip #11 - Route 66!

We hope you follow our adventures and get inspired to get out there, travel, experience adventure, and capture as many moments as possible to savor later with your kids and hopefully one day, your grandkids!
